What can I find in Silverdale?
The picturesque village of Silverdale, home to several of our cottages, including The Barn, Cove Lodge, The Pepperpot, and The Knott, boasts a selection of independent shops, including Vintage & Country, which sells restored and re-upholstered vintage furnishings. They also offer a range of gifts and cards.
What about shopping in Arnside?
Just a short drive from Silverdale, the coastal village of Arnside is another fantastic destination for a spot of shopping. Home to our Pier and Tower Cottages, Arnside offers a charming mix of independent shops and cafes. Don’t miss The Little Shop, a treasure trove of gifts, cards, and local crafts.
For a unique shopping experience, visit on a Friday when the Arnside Country Market takes place, showcasing the best of local produce and crafts.
What can I buy in Carnforth?
Carnforth, located just a few miles from our Keer Cottage, is a bustling market town with plenty to offer shoppers. The town centre is home to a variety of independent shops, including The Carnforth Bookshop, a cosy haven for book lovers.
Are there any markets or farm shops nearby?
Absolutely! The region is known for its fantastic markets and farm shops, where you can find the freshest local produce and unique handcrafted goods. Just a short drive from our cottages in Yealand Redmayne and Silverdale, you’ll find Greenlands Farm Village, a working farm with a shop selling locally reared meats, fresh vegetables, and artisan products.
For a true taste of the region, visit the Lancaster Charter Market, held every Wednesday and Saturday in the heart of the city, or the Morecambe Festival Market, open daily from April to October.
What about shopping further afield?
If you’re willing to venture a bit further from your cottage, you’ll find even more shopping delights in the surrounding areas. The historic city of Lancaster, just a 30-minute drive from most of our cottages, offers a fantastic mix of independent shops, high street brands, and quirky boutiques. Don’t miss the Lancaster Central Market, housed in a beautiful Victorian building.
In addition, there is a range of boutiques and independent shops in Kirkby Lonsdale, such as The Sweet Shop. Here, you can indulge your sweet tooth with traditional sweets and chocolates.
For a truly unique shopping experience, head to the Lake District, where you’ll find a wealth of independent shops, galleries, and craft centres. The quaint towns of Windermere, Ambleside, and Keswick are particularly well-known for their shops, with everything from outdoor gear to local artwork on offer.
What kind of souvenirs can I take home?
When it comes to souvenirs, the possibilities are endless! The region is known for its talented artisans and craftspeople, so you’ll find plenty of locally made goods to take home as a reminder of your cottage holiday. Look out for handcrafted pottery, glassware, and textiles, as well as locally produced food and drink, such as Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding, Hawkshead Relish, and Kendal Mint Cake.
For a truly unique souvenir, consider purchasing a piece of artwork inspired by the stunning landscapes of Lancashire and Cumbria. Many local galleries and craft centres showcase the work of talented painters, photographers, and sculptors who draw inspiration from the region’s natural beauty.
What are the typical opening hours for shops in the area?
Most shops in the area follow standard UK opening hours, typically from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday. However, it’s worth noting that some independent shops and galleries may have slightly shorter opening hours or be closed on certain days of the week, so it’s always a good idea to check before visiting.
On Sundays, many shops operate reduced hours, usually from 10am to 4pm, while larger supermarkets may stay open slightly later. It’s also worth keeping in mind that some shops may have seasonal variations in their opening hours, particularly during the busy summer months.
